Man shot by Holly Hill police officer, sheriff’s office says

HOLLY HILL, Florida. – A man was shot and killed by a Holly Hill police officer after a 911 call said he had a knife and was threatening to stab someone, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

According to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office, police were called to an apartment at 467 Ridgewood Avenue on Tuesday evening.

Investigators said the caller told them a man with a steak knife was threatening to hurt himself and others in the apartment. The caller said he had made death threats to her in the past and was about to stab someone, the post said.

The sheriff’s office said an officer who responded to the man at around 5:26 p.m. reported he threatened him with a gun and then fired shots moments later.

Investigators said the man died at the scene. No one else was injured.

The sheriff’s office is assisting the Holly Hill Police Department after a series of resignations due to allegations of “inappropriate incidents,” which is why the office is releasing information about the shooting.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
