Forecast for Saturday

Saturday is a great start to the Memorial Day weekend! Tomorrow is looking pretty good too, before we have to dodge some downpours and thunderstorms on Monday.

On Saturday, an interplay of sun and clouds is expected with maximum temperatures of around 27 degrees inland and 21 degrees on the coast.

A weakening rain and storm front will approach the northwest suburbs in the late afternoon and evening. A passing shower could approach New York City tonight, well after sunset. It’s not a big deal, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re going to be outside for long periods of time.

The lowest temperatures at night fall to about 15 to 20 degrees Celsius.

Forecast for Sunday

Sunday will be another day of a mix of sun and clouds. A scattered shower or storm cannot be ruled out in the afternoon, especially inland. But that is no reason to cancel outdoor plans. Most of the area should remain dry, with highs around 27 degrees.

Memorial Day will be much busier with some showers and thunderstorms. The morning will be cloudy, but it should stay mostly dry in and around NYC. That should not be the case in the north and west, where showers and thunderstorms are possible shortly after sunrise.

As soon as we are past midday, wet weather is forecast everywhere. In the evening, a series of heavy rains and thunderstorms will move in from the west, bringing a high risk of flooding in some places and a storm risk.

Our model data is still somewhat uncertain as to the timing, but we now assume that the afternoon hours will be most affected. We have a red alert For this reason, especially for Monday afternoon. Maximum temperatures will only be 21 degrees, but it will feel humid and tropical.

We’ll keep you updated. For now, plan your outdoor activities for today and Sunday.
