Kidnapping: 3-year-old kidnapped, raped and murdered; accused arrested | News from Delhi

New Delhi: A three-and-a-half-year-old girl was kidnapped, raped and murdered by her neighbour in southwestern Kapashera area of the city. The crime took place on May 22. The accused sustained bullet injuries while trying to escape from police custody after snatching a policeman’s pistol. The medical board conducting the post-mortem confirmed rape on Friday. On Wednesday, police received a call from the control room at 8.51 pm in which a person called about his daughter’s abduction by a neighbour. “Her mother told us that her daughter was playing outside her house at 6 pm. Around that time, Anil, who lives nearby, took the girl,” a police official said. An extensive search was carried out to find Anil and the girl but when they could not be found, a case of kidnapping was registered. Then police saw on CCTV footage Anil taking the girl to a drain at 7.05 pm. The same camera captured him returning without the girl at around 7.25 pm.Rohit Meena, DCP (South West), asked SHO Naveen Kumar to lead several investigation teams. “During technical investigation, we found Anil when he took a bus to his hometown Kanpur. We started checking buses heading towards UP. After numerous searches, we finally arrested him in a bus in Sohna,” Meena said.During interrogation, Anil confessed to kidnapping and murdering the girl and dumping her body in a swampy drain on the Kapashera-Gurgaon border. “Anil led the police team to the drain area, which was marked by thick bushes and heaps of garbage. After a search operation lasting more than an hour in the dark, the body was finally discovered,” the DCP said. When he was taken into custody, Anil sensed an opportunity to escape and snatched a policeman’s loaded service revolver. He fired at the policemen, but the policemen fired back in self-defence. After being hit in the left leg, the suspect was taken to a hospital. The girl’s family has been living on rent in Kapashera for five years. Kin said they knew Anil, a labourer and father of two girls, who lived just a few houses away from their home, well. They said the child fondly called Anil “uncle” and the two often played together. Anil and the girl’s father also often shared meals together. “When he asked the girl to accompany him on the day of the crime, she did not refuse because she knew him,” an officer said. Police suspect that the accused attacked her and that he killed her to silence her when the girl started crying loudly. “Anil told us that he suffocated her,” the officer said. The post-mortem report on Friday confirmed this. A 54-year-old relative said the girl had come to her parents’ house only 5-6 months ago from her maternal grandparents’ house where she lived. The relative added that when the family was frantically searching for the missing girl, a neighbour informed the mother that he saw her leaving with Anil. The mother immediately called Anil, who assured her that he would be back in 10 minutes. However, it soon became clear that Anil had no intention of coming back and was actually trying to escape. “Anil killed our little girl by submerging her head in the drain,” the relative claimed.
