Actor Steve Buscemi is the latest victim of a random attack in Manhattan

Steve Buscemi, the acclaimed actor known for roles in Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos and Fargo, was randomly attacked in Manhattan last Wednesday.

Buscemi, 66, was walking near Third Avenue and East 27th Street in Kips Bay when a stranger punched him in the face.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital with bruising, swelling and bleeding in his left eye.
The attacker has not been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.

This incident follows a similar attack in April on actor Michael Stuhlbarg, Buscemi’s former co-star on Boardwalk Empire.

Stuhlbarg was attacked with a rock in Central Park, but was not seriously injured.

“Steve Buscemi was attacked in Midtown Manhattan, another victim of random violence in the city,” Buscemi’s publicist said in the statement. “He is doing well and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, although it is incredibly sad for everyone that this happened while he was walking the streets of New York at the same time.”

Both attacks have heightened concerns about random violence in New York City, especially after several young women posted TikTok videos this spring showing themselves being randomly attacked by strangers.
Buscemi, a Brooklyn native and former firefighter, currently hosts the television show “Park Bench with Steve Buscemi.”
