Newport Beach man found slain in apartment, suspect arrested – Orange County Register

A 48-year-old man was found dead in a Newport Beach apartment last week, and police arrested a suspect – believed to be an acquaintance of the victim – on suspicion of murder on Monday, July 29, officials said.

On Friday, July 26, officers responded to a residence in the 1200 block of Park Newport to conduct a wellness check. Police found the victim, Reginald Hidalgo Fils of Newport Beach, dead inside the residence with physical signs of injuries, police said.

The investigation led to the arrest of 35-year-old Brandon Christian Chanman of Chino Hills, Newport Beach police said in a statement.

Police said Fils and Chanman were acquaintances. Further details about their relationship and Fils’ death were not released.
