Hammond toddler dies after shooting himself in the face | Crime/Police

According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, a Hammond toddler died after accidentally shooting himself in the face.

Police said they arrived at the scene around 1 p.m. Wednesday where the 3-year-old boy was shot to death inside a home on Red Fox Drive in Hammond.

A parent immediately tried to help the child, as did paramedics when they arrived, but the toddler could not be saved, the sheriff’s office said.

The investigation is ongoing and Sheriff Gerald Sticker advised residents who own firearms to store them safely and consider purchasing trigger locks.
