San Francisco 49ers to trade Brandon Aiyuk to Buffalo Bills

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL offseason brings its fair share of predictions and bold positions. This is especially true with trades that could happen before the season or the deadline. After the speculation of the offseason, it finally happened. Brandon Aiyuk requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers, and he should have a very large market. With that in mind, the team that should be most interested in trading Aiyuk is the Buffalo Bills.

The 49ers should consider listening to trade offers while they can. Aiyuk is looking for around $30 million on his next contract, and with Deebo Samuel already making over $24 million per season for the next two years, paying two receivers that price doesn’t make sense for San Francisco.

–Brandon Aiyuk is one of the top five receivers in the NFL

Aiyuk is an extremely reliable and talented receiver who has proven that he can be the primary receiver in an offense. This was demonstrated with his career-high 1,491 yards and eight touchdowns, which also makes it two consecutive seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards. Over his four-year career, he has totaled 4,314 yards and 26 touchdowns, while averaging 14.7 yards per reception. Aiyuk has always been capable of creating yards after the catch, which was demonstrated with his 1,459 yards after the catch over his career.

The Bills just traded their top receiver, Stefon Diggs, and selected Keon Coleman, which makes it seem like they are moving in a new direction at receiver. While they don’t necessarily have the cap space, which also played a role in the trade, Aiyuk is worth it and Brandon Beane is known for his contract restructuring. For Aiyuk, he brings the superstar talent that Diggs did, but at a much younger age, as Aiyuk is 26 compared to Diggs who will be 31.

The Bills are in a high-pressure situation this season with Sean McDermott on the hot seat and questions swirling around Josh Allen. It’s the Super Bowl or nothing for Buffalo, and a receiving core of Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman and Curtis Samuel has potential, but the Bills don’t have time to count on that. Aiyuk would give them the boost they need on offense, and the 49ers would have one less contract situation to deal with with Brock Purdy’s contract ending. It’s a great scenario for everyone involved.
