Beryl Drives: Where to Find Free Food, Water, and Ice in Houston

The City of Houston will distribute free water and ice on Tuesday, July 16 at five locations.

HOUSTON — As recovery from Hurricane Beryl continues across the Houston area, many people are still struggling after massive power outages shuttered businesses and left many with unexpected expenses and no food for their families.

Distribution campaigns are being organized by the City of Houston, the Houston Food Bank and other organizations to help meet the need.

Water and ice distribution locations

Houston Food Bank and HISD Food Distribution at Delmar Stadium

HISD and the Houston Food Bank are distributing free food and supplies at Delmar Stadium, 2020 Mangum Road, on Tuesday, July 16.

The operation is open to anyone in need.

Families receiving SNAP benefits can get help directly from the food bank.

The food bank also needs volunteers to help pack 10,000 boxes a day in disaster relief for Beryl’s victims and others facing hardship.

Individuals, including children, as well as groups are invited to volunteer, and registration can be done online for one or more shifts: From 8 a.m. to noon, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. or from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Saturday, as well as from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Friday, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday.

Hot Meals Distributed in Harris County District 1

County Commissioner Precinct 1 Rodney Ellis is handing out free hot meals until 2 p.m. or while supplies last. The ceremony is taking place at the El Camino Center, 2727 El Camino St.

Ice, water and food distribution by Cactus Jack Foundation and Houston Food Bank

Houston rapper Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack Foundation is partnering with the food bank, Fort Bend ISD and Pepperonis for a distribution Tuesday night.

It will take place at Thurgood Marshall High School located at 1220 Buffalo Run (Fondren Entrance) in Missouri City from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Travis Scott will not be there as he is currently on tour.

Watermelon Contest for Ward 4

Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman’s office is offering free watermelons until 6 p.m. Tuesday (or while supplies last) at Atkinson Farms Produce. It’s located at 3716 Spring Cypress Road.
