Raytown woman dead, 2 Richmond children seriously injured in Thursday accident

LATHROP, Missouri (KCTV) – A 22-year-old woman died after being involved in a car crash in Caldwell County Thursday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Ayrika Ross of Raytown was traveling westbound on Missouri Highway 116 at approximately 2:15 p.m. when she attempted to pass another vehicle.

Her 2016 Dodge Charger left the south side of the roadway and she overcorrected, causing her to veer onto the north side of the road, according to the accident report.

The Charger then struck a private driveway and a sewer, causing the vehicle to be thrown through the air and land on its driver’s side.

Ross was taken to Liberty Hospital, where she died of her injuries early Friday morning. Two Richmond children, ages 7 and 8, were seriously injured in the accident and taken to the hospital.

Ross was not wearing a seat belt and it is not known whether the children were wearing a safety device.
