Fort Wainwright soldier pleads guilty to sexual abuse of minor | Local news

At the time of the abuse, Colvin was an active soldier assigned to the 1st Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment at Fort Wainwright.

Assistant Public Defender Eric Hedland represented Colvin and Assistant District Attorney Kathryn Mason represented the state.

Both victims were between the ages of 13 and 15 at the time of the abuse. According to a criminal complaint, Colvin met a juvenile victim in September 2021 through a mutual friend and they had sexual intercourse approximately 10 times over a five-month period.

The two met in Colvin’s barracks room at Fort Wainwright and in homes and vehicles throughout Fairbanks and engaged in sexual acts, the complaint says.

“(The victim) admitted that Colvin hid her in his truck as he drove through the main gate to escort a minor to Fort Wainwright,” charging documents state.

Hedland told the court that there was never any allegation that Colvin supplied the teenagers with alcohol or forced them to drink it.

Supreme Court Justice Earl Peterson accepted the settlement.

Colvin will be sentenced to 15 years in prison with nine years suspended on October 3 at the Rabinowitz Courthouse in Fairbanks.
