‘Armed and dangerous’ Maine man arrested after four-day search

A Maine man who was considered “armed and dangerous” after two violent altercations in Oxford County on July 4 was taken into custody, authorities said. Jacob McGurn, 28, of Gilead was arrested without incident after turning himself in to Oxford County Sheriff’s Office officers in Bethel around 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sheriff Christopher Wainwright said. Wainwright said McGurn was taken to the Oxford County Jail and charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, terrorizing, domestic assault, domestic violence threatening with a dangerous weapon and dangerous driving. The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said its officers responded to reports of a weapons offense on Gilead Road in Gilead around 4 a.m. Thursday morning. Officials said a physical altercation occurred between McGurn and another man at a home in Gilead, during which McGurn fired several shots in the man’s direction. The sheriff’s office said McGurn fled the area when officers arrived and that they later learned he had previously been involved in another violent altercation at a nearby Bethel residence. Authorities said officers seized several firearms while investigating both crime scenes.

The sheriff’s office said McGurn fled the area when officers arrived, and officers later learned he had previously been involved in another violent altercation at a nearby residence in Bethel.

According to authorities, officers seized several firearms while investigating both crime scenes.
