Police identify 19-year-old man who may have died from lightning strike in Davie Park – NBC 6 South Florida

Police have identified the man who was killed Sunday at Vista View Park in Davie, possibly after being struck by lightning.

According to Davie Police, officers responded to a 911 call reporting a person lying on the ground who may have been struck by lightning. When police arrived, they found a man dead.

Police identified the man as 19-year-old Ethan Lawrence of Broward County.

In a Facebook post, someone who knew Lawrence described him as a “beautiful, smart, athletic, wonderful young man.”

“I am blessed and honored to have had the opportunity to meet Ethan at my first 5K for Aden,” wrote Sarah Ramsay Perry. “He won.”

The Broward County Coroner’s Office is assisting with the investigation. The DPD investigation is still active.

According to police, the investigation did not reveal any suspicious circumstances that would make the case a criminal one.

The park was closed for weather-related safety reasons, police said.
