Man shot in apparent road rage incident on Central Avenue.

Albuquerque –

Today at approximately 7:15 p.m., Albuquerque Police received a call about a shooting and car crash near the intersection of Central Ave. and Elizabeth St NE. When police arrived, they found a man in the driver’s seat of a minivan with clear signs of injuries from a gunshot wound and the car crash following the shooting.

APD secured the scene for the Albuquerque Fire Department, who rushed to the scene to quickly remove the man from the driver’s seat of the crashed car and begin medical treatment. While on scene, we observed the man holding a piece of cloth to the back of his head. We could see at least one bullet hole near the fender on the driver’s side of the minivan.

AFR and APD worked together to get the man to a waiting ambulance, from where he was quickly transported to UNMH in critical condition. Several APD officers combed the area to locate the suspect. No suspect appears to be in custody at this time.

While the accident scene is investigated, APD is closing eastbound and westbound traffic between Central Ave. and Elizabeth St. NE.

We will update the story as more information becomes available.
