NFL insider: Rashee Rice faces multiple game suspension

Recipient of the Kansas City Chiefs Rashee Rice continues to prepare for the 2024 season, but is well aware that he could face a suspension from the NFL.

It’s been a turbulent offseason for Rice, as he faces eight charges in connection with a car crash in March. The former SMU star was also reportedly a suspect in a robbery that occurred at a Dallas nightclub in May.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler provided an update on Rashee Rice on SportsCenter Saturday morning.

“Most people I’ve talked to around the league believe that after everything that’s happened, he’s going to be suspended for multiple games at some point,” Fowler explained.

That’s not a huge surprise considering the NFL’s history with suspensions, but just because a multi-game suspension is likely doesn’t mean it’s coming soon.

According to Fowler, the league will likely be patient while it negotiates the appropriate punishment for Rice, adding that it’s possible the entire 2024 season could expire before we have a resolution.

“This is a lengthy legal battle, which means he could start the season, actually play games, or finish the whole year because the league likes to see the full scope of things before making a decision on how many games a player could play,” Fowler said. “We saw that at Alvin Kamara a couple of years ago when he was charged with assault. He played the whole year and then got suspended for the next year. So that’s a possibility the Chiefs are preparing for here, they just don’t know.”

In the meantime, it’s imperative that Rice stays out of further trouble, and Fowler said it’s good for the second-year pro to be back with his teammates.

“He was an active participant in the Chiefs’ offseason spring training. I was told that was a safe haven for him. After everything he goes through off the field, it was a relief for him to be back,” Fowler said. “He was viewed as a perfect teammate when he was there. And now the Chiefs are waiting on a possible NFL lockout.”

Rice was selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs after an outstanding college career at SMUIn his first year in the NFL, he helped the Chiefs to the Super Bowl and led Kansas City’s wideouts with 79 catches for 938 yards and seven touchdowns.

During Kansas City’s postseason run to the Super Bowl, Rice caught 26 passes for 262 yards in four playoff games.
