Stephen A. Smith praised Houston Texans’ CJ Stroud during debate with young QBs

It’s no secret that CJ Stroud is a potential superstar at quarterback. His combination of size, talent and a roster around him allows him to realize that potential very early in his career.

Stroud received flowers during the offseason for what he accomplished as a rookie. He turned a three-win team around, winning ten games and one playoff game in his first NFL season. His potential is sky-high and the Houston Texans have begun to gather as much talent as possible around him.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith is the latest TV pundit to sing Stroud’s praises.

“Let’s take CJ Stroud as an example,” Smith began. “Third quarterback in the last 50 years to lead the NFL in both passing yards per game and touchdown-to-interception ratio. This brother had a passer rating of 157 in his first playoff game against the NFL’s #1 ranked defense, which is Cleveland. »

If Stroud’s regular-season performance wasn’t enough proof of his budding stardom, he proved it in the playoffs, winning a playoff game as a rookie. The pop is there with the Texans quarterback, who should be playing playoff football for years to come.

The panel featured a speech about Jordan Love, comparing him to Stroud as the quarterbacks of the future. Smith cited Love’s age and production as reasons why Stroud has the edge. Obviously, the comparison between the two is laughable.

Love has talent, yes. However, Stroud has the better credentials despite being younger and equipped with wide receivers such as Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins and Tank Dell and incredible depth at the position. Throw in Joe Mixon, the Texans’ newly acquired running back, and Stroud runs an elite offense in Houston.

Among young quarterbacks, Stroud may well stand out as a superstar in the years to come.
