Fatal accident on Sunrise Highway: Long Island man who killed four of his family members while under the influence of drugs is sentenced

MASSAPEQUA, Long Island (WABC) – A man who pleaded guilty to killing four members of the same family in a car crash on Long Island will be sentenced Friday.

Michael DeAngelo admitted to driving over 100 miles per hour on the Sunrise Highway last summer while under the influence of cocaine and fentanyl.

He crashed into the car of Marine veteran Patrice Huntley, who was celebrating a recent job offer and eating ice cream with five family members.

Huntley, his 10-year-old son Jeremiah Huntley and his 13-year-old daughter Hannah Huntley were killed in the crash.

His six-year-old step-granddaughter Chantel Solomon succumbed to her injuries six days after the accident.

Prosecutors say his path of destruction began days before the accident, just three days after he fled from police who had been called to his home because of an overdose.

Family members are expected to make a victim impact statement at sentencing.

DeAngelo faces up to 21 years in prison.
