Police make arrest in fatal shooting in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton police have charged a man with first-degree murder in connection with a shooting last month on Catalpa Avenue, police said.

Hampton Police, with assistance from the U.S. Marshal’s Service, were able to arrest Ahsan Javor Phillips without incident on Wednesday and execute outstanding warrants not only for second-degree murder, but also for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, intentional discharge of a firearm in public and reckless handling of a firearm.


On May 19 at approximately 12:30 p.m., police dispatch received a call about a shooting in the 300 block of Catalpa Avenue.

There, officers found a 38-year-old man, later identified as Derrick A. Lindsay, lying in the street with numerous gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead, police said.
