Buffalo Public Schools Teacher Placed on Paid Administrative Leave

AMHERST, N.Y. — A Buffalo Public Schools teacher is facing charges after being accused of trying to maintain an online relationship with a teenager.

Steven C. DeMart, 36, thought he was talking to a 13-year-old girl online, Amherst police said in a news release Thursday. An investigation by the department’s Special Victims Unit resulted in a charge of attempting to endanger the welfare of a child.

Buffalo Public Schools said it was aware of the allegations and placed DeMart on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.

DeMart was released on a simple request to appear.
