Douglas County Judge Christina Peterson was charged with simple assault on a police officer at the Red Martini Restaurant and Lounge on Peachtree Street.

Peterson had already been charged with ethics violations by the Judicial Qualifications Commission in 2022.

The JQC ruled that Peterson should be removed from office. On Tuesday, the Georgia Supreme Court said it agreed with the JQC’s decision.

“In summary, we conclude that her dismissal is the appropriate punishment, given her numerous breaches of the CJC rules in relation to several matters – some of which reflect a blatant disregard for the law, the rules of court and the rules of judicial conduct; given the pattern of breaches which the Director has demonstrated by clear and convincing evidence; given the extremely concerning nature of some of these breaches, particularly in relation to the matter of criminal contempt; and given her conduct during the JQC investigation.”
