UPDATE 24.06.24: Myron Scott Goesahead, 20, and Ashtin Zant Glen, 19, were both charged Monday with attempted first-degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon. Both are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning.

BILLINGS, Montana – Inmates at the Yellowstone County Detention Facility (YCDF) attacked two prison guards with shaft bars made from toothbrushes on Saturday.

According to a press release from the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office, sheriff’s deputies and an ambulance were called to YCDF at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024, because the attack occurred.

According to court documents, two prison guards were on duty at the facility when inmates attacked them without cause, as seen on surveillance camera footage.

The inmates attacked the officers with weapons they had made before the attack and with their fists.

The attack was stopped and the suspects were arrested by other officers at the facility before officers arrived.

When sheriffs arrived on the scene, they found large amounts of blood pouring from the back of the head of a prison guard who had been attacked. Officers learned that the officer had been stabbed multiple times in the back of the head.

He was taken to a local hospital with injuries to his head and neck, treated, and released later Saturday evening. The other officer was evaluated at the facility and was not taken to the hospital.

Sergeant Hostetter showed Deputy Sheriff Galles two weapons seized during the attack, two knives made from sharpened toothbrushes with cloth handles.

According to court documents, Sergeant Hostetter told Deputy Galles that one of the inmates admitted to stabbing someone before Deputy Galles arrived.

Sergeant Hostetter also shared two notes he found from one of the suspects, Myron Scott Goesahead, a note with a map of the condominium with a red circle where the attack occurred, and a note to an attorney in the community. The map shows that this attack was planned in advance.

The two suspects will appear in court on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, on the charges.
