Texas man died Sunday in collision between pickup truck and semi-trailer in Allen County

IOLA, Kansas (WIBW) – A man was killed Sunday evening when the pickup truck he was driving collided with a tractor-trailer near Iola in Allen County, authorities said.

The accident was reported at 6:55 p.m. Sunday on Highway US-169 at Minnesota Road. The accident scene was about 2 miles south of Iola.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2011 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck was traveling southbound on US-169 when it crossed the center line and collided with the trailer of a 2015 Volvo semi-trailer truck traveling northbound on US-169.

The driver of the pickup truck, Donald Brian Gaylord, 64, of Magnolia, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Gaylord was wearing his seat belt.

The driver of the semi, Luis Alberto Martinez San Miguel, 39, of Davenport, Florida, was uninjured. Police said San Miguel was wearing a seatbelt.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles, the patrol said.
