Cleveland Heights police search for black jaguar that fled from police

Cleveland Heights Police are investigating two chases involving the same vehicle that both resulted in crashes, one of which involved Cleveland Heights Police.

On Saturday afternoon, Cleveland Heights police responded to a shooting call on St. Clair Avenue near E. 152 Street. When they arrived, they saw a black 2019 Jaguar F-Pace with no license plates firing out the rear windows at a white Chevrolet Equinox as it drove away, Cleveland Heights police said.

Officers began pursuing the two vehicles, traveling south at more than 90 miles per hour, police said.

During the chase, “dangerous maneuvers” led to a collision between two surrounding vehicles, police said. No one was injured in the accident.

Both vehicles drove to the Cleveland Heights border on Noble Road and turned onto Helmsdale Road, where the Equinox struck a tree, police said. The Jaguar fled the scene.

According to police, it turned out that the Equinox was a rental car that was not registered to the driver, but to another person.

On Sunday morning, the Jaguar appeared on area flock cameras, this time with a license plate. When Cleveland Heights attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the Jaguar fled, leading to another chase, police said.

The chase, which involved driving through the city at over 90 mph, ended in another crash, this time involving a Cleveland Heights police SUV and another vehicle near Terrace and N. Taylor streets in East Cleveland, police said.

The pursuit was called off and one person was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The officer was unharmed, police said.

The Jaguar was last seen traveling west on I-90 at speeds of over 100 mph, police said.

Police are still looking for the Jaguar with the registration number KAW9604. Police said the Jaguar is a stolen vehicle.

Subject to change.
