77-year-old man from Roseburg found dead in his home; investigation ongoing

ROSEBURG, Oregon – On Wednesday around 11:30 a.m., Roseburg Police responded to a call to an address in the 1100 block SE Pine to check on the welfare of 77-year-old Samuel Steven Smeth.

Smeth was found dead in his apartment, the RPD said.

The next of kin have been notified.

Detectives from the Roseburg Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police assisted and will continue to investigate the case with assistance from the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.

“There is currently no known ongoing threat to the public,” Roseburg police said.
