25-year-old motorcyclist killed in car crash on Morningstar Road

STATEN ISLAND, NY — A 25-year-old motorcyclist died in a crash in Mariners Harbor Tuesday evening.

According to police, officers responded to a 911 call about a car crash at the intersection of Morningstar Road and Dixon Avenue around 7:25 p.m.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Morningstar Road when he collided with a Hyundai SUV driven by a 19-year-old woman traveling westbound on Dixon Avenue, an NYPD spokesman said.

Emergency medical services responded and took the motorcyclist to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

An 18-year-old passenger in the SUV was taken to the same medical facility in stable condition. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, police said.

An off-duty nurse told Advance/SILive.com she began CPR on the motorcyclist before emergency medical services arrived. A witness at the scene said emergency medical services spent a significant amount of time resuscitating the motorcyclist, but he did not appear to respond.

Neighbors reported that there had been numerous accidents at this intersection.

Following the accident, a large section of Morningstar Road from Dixon Avenue to Ronald Avenue was closed and traffic was diverted.

The investigation is ongoing as the identity of the deceased has not yet been established and the family has not yet been notified, the spokesman said.
