Ascension Investigates Suspected Cyberattack | kvue.com

The health network said it was working to determine whether sensitive information was affected.

AUSTIN, Texas – Ascension is investigating after a suspected cyberattack on Wednesday.

The healthcare network said it had detected “unusual activity” on select technology network systems.

Ascension said it responded immediately, launched an investigation and took remedial action. Access to some systems has been interrupted while this process continues, Ascension said.

“Our care teams are trained to respond to these types of disruptions and have procedures in place to ensure patient care continues to be safe and minimized,” Ascension said.

The security incident caused disruption to clinical operations and the hospital system said it was assessing the impact and how long it would last.

Ascension said third-party cybersecurity firm Mandiant was brought in to assist in the investigation and notified authorities.

“Together, we are working to fully investigate what information, if any, was affected by the situation,” Ascension said in a statement. “If we determine that sensitive information has been affected, we will notify and assist those individuals in accordance with all relevant regulatory and legal guidelines.”

Business partners have been asked to temporarily suspend connection to the Ascension environment.
