Met PC arrested for sexually harassing a colleague while on duty

A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting a female police officer while they were both on duty at a north London police station.

PC Archit Sharma, 26, appeared at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday and was sentenced to 16 months in prison for the sexual assault at Southgate police station in December 2020.

Sharma, from the Met’s Haringey and Enfield unit, was suspended from duty after the victim reported the attack.

Usha Shergill, prosecutor in CPS London’s Complex Casework Unit, said: “As a police officer, Sharma was expected to adhere to the highest standards of conduct and to behave professionally both in the workplace and in public.

“The incident has left the victim very distressed and frightened. I would like to thank the victim for having the courage to report the incident and for helping us bring Sharma to justice.

“The public prosecutor will not hesitate to prosecute serious sexual crimes if there is sufficient evidence and to bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Police Chief Caroline Haines said: “I am furious that an officer has behaved in such an unacceptable manner. PC Sharma’s behaviour betrayed all the values of policing.”
