Atlanta United star Thiago Almada in talks with Boca Juniors

Atlanta United Midfielder Thiago Almada has hinted that a return to Argentina could be on the cards. in an interview Monday. The 23-year-old revealed he had spoken to Boca Junior legend Juan Roman Riquelme and admitted he would be interested in a move away from MLS.

“Yesterday, Riquelme called me. It was a pleasant call. We talked a little about everything. If there is a formal offer, I will discuss it with my family” said Almada.

Riquelme is currently president of Boca Junior, the club where he spent 13 years of his illustrious career. His role in this decision could be a major factor for Almada, but he won’t be allowed to leave Atlanta on the cheap.

He joined the Argentinian club Vélez Sarsfield for $14.6 million, a fee that remains the largest incoming MLS transaction. Atlanta will likely command a fee that will eclipse the $24 million received for Miguel Almirón, which is the league’s outgoing transfer record.
