Murder investigation underway after assault victim dies months later

INDIANAPOLIS – A homicide investigation is underway after a victim died months after an assault incident in northwest Indy.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to a report that a person had been abused on January 23 and dispatched to a nearby hospital.

When officers arrived, they found an adult male victim with traumatic injuries.

Further investigation revealed that the incident occurred in the 4900 block of Media Drive.

IMPD investigators responded and identified the alleged suspect as 53-year-old William Spann Jr.

On Sunday, June 16, the victim died. The Marion County Coroner’s Office classified the case as a homicide.

Spann Jr. was initially arrested for domestic violence with serious bodily harm. The case has now been handed over to the homicide squad. Spann Jr. remains in custody.
