Press release from United Way of Buffalo and Erie County

United Way of Buffalo and Erie County is preparing to mobilize more than 2,000 volunteers representing 76 organizations for its 2024 United Way Day of Caring, scheduled for Tuesday, June 18.

“United Way’s Day of Caring is one of the many ways we mobilize and inspire people to participate in creating meaningful change,” said UWBEC President and CEO Trina Burruss. “More than 40% of Erie County families are trapped in cycles of hardship. This is unacceptable. For us, Day of Caring is about doing what we can to break these cycles and improve the well-being, education and financial stability of our most vulnerable families. All of our Day of Caring project hosts are part of this day because they share these goals. Many of our volunteers will serve in parts of our community that have been particularly undervalued and neglected. The Day of Caring is proof that when we each do what we can, we can uplift the entire community.

United Way’s Day of Caring is UWBEC’s largest one-day volunteer event. It gives individuals, businesses and organizations across the community the opportunity to come together and make a lasting impact through service. This year, volunteers will complete more than 100 projects for nonprofit organizations across Western New York in a single day, representing more than 8,000 volunteer hours.

Volunteers provide a wide range of support to nonprofit organizations, including painting, landscaping, cleaning and organizing, serving meals, consulting on topics such as marketing or IT, and more. Moreover.

The “Community Baby Shower” is part of United Way’s Day of Caring. United Way accepted generous donations of new baby supplies from 33 organizations. Donations included diapers, wipes, manual breast pumps, milk storage bags, nursing pads, digital thermometers, books, clothing, blankets and stuffed animals. Supplies will be donated to families in need across Buffalo and Erie County.

The 2024 Day of Caring is sponsored by Delaware North, HSBC, Wegmans, the Buffalo Bills, ACV Auctions, Curbell, Linde and Thermo Fisher Scientific. The Community Baby Shower is sponsored by John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital, Citi and Thermo Fisher Scientific.

For more than 100 years, the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County has fought to improve the health, education and financial stability of every member of our community. By forging unlikely partnerships, finding new solutions to old problems, and mobilizing the best resources, we inspire individuals to join the fight against their communities’ most daunting social crises. We believe that to live better, we must LIVE UNITED. Learn more at uwbec.org.
