NIA employees suspend strike following instructions from National Labour Commission

By Doreen Ampofo

The National Identification Authority (NIA) employees say that their strike, which began last Monday, June 10, 2024, will be suspended in view of an engagement on Friday, 14 June 2024 with the Commission for Fair Wages and Salaries.

The NIA union had cited poor working conditions and the government’s delays in negotiating their allowances as reasons for their strike. Yesterday, the National Labour Commission called on NIA employees to call off their strike.

Commenting on the NLC’s decision, PSWU Deputy General Secretary John Sampah said they would adopt a wait-and-see approach. Cephas Amada, Director of Salaries at the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, spoke of another round of negotiations on Friday, June 14, 2024.

The Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority, Professor Ken Attafuah, assured that the concerns of the workers would be addressed.
