Mules trapped in suspension bridge rescued – Radio Nepal

Akhham: Eleven of the 13 mules stuck in the middle of a suspension bridge over the Karnali River were rescued alive.

However, two of the animals died. The mules became stuck after the bridge deck tilted and their feet got caught in the hole in the wire mesh that formed the bridge’s sidewalk.

A portion of the steel mesh bridge deck was suspended as mules crossed the suspension bridge connecting Kalekanda, Panchadeval Binayak Municipality (9) in Achham District and Khidkijyula of Aathbis Municipality (6) in Dailekh District.

The mules have been stuck since 11 am today. Achham Deputy Superintendent of Police Santosh Pathak said the animals were rescued by cutting the wire mesh of the bridge and throwing them into the river.

“Two mules died during the rescue because they cut the wire mesh of the bridge. We were able to rescue the remaining mules with the help of boats,” he explained. A part of the deck on the right side of the bridge had tilted when a herd of mules crossed the bridge and the mules got their legs caught in the wire mesh.

A team from the Gorakhbaks Company of the Nepal Army, the Nepal Police and Armed Police Forces, and local people were involved in the rescue.
