WATCH: Highway police officer suspended after allegedly abusing truck driver

A video has surfaced on social media showing a policeman with a rifle approaching a truck near Burhan on the M1 motorway.

RAWALPINDI:

A motorway police inspector has been suspended and an investigation launched against him after a video emerged allegedly showing him abusing and threatening a truck driver near Burhan on the M1 motorway.

The incident was filmed several days ago and shows the officer approaching the truck with a rifle in his hand. The now widely circulated footage shows the truck driver and his crew documenting the encounter.

“You see, they are threatening us with guns and shooting us. They have the right to fine us, but how are they enforcing the law like this?” they are heard saying.

As the video continues, the inspector can be seen trying to snatch the driver’s cell phone. He then hands the gun to a colleague and calls for help via radio.

In response to the video being shared, the highway police suspended the inspector involved. A highway police spokesman confirmed that the officer attempted to intimidate the driver after issuing a fine.

When the M1 Sector Commander came to know about the incident, he formed a committee headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to investigate the case. The inspector was suspended and an inquiry was launched.

“If the officer is found guilty, strict action will be taken as per the law,” the spokesman said. He further stressed that the highway police are known for their courteous conduct and assured that there will be no compromise on this standard.
