Marksville man arrested for cruelty to sick person and involuntary manslaughter

MARKSVILLE, Louisiana (CALF) – According to the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office, a Marksville man was arrested on charges of animal cruelty and negligent homicide.

Details about the case are limited. APSO said Marksville police investigated an incident and sent the file to the Avoyelles Parish District Attorney. It was then presented to a grand jury, which resulted in an indictment and an arrest warrant being issued.

News Channel 5 was provided with the arrest warrant and affidavit for Joseph Hooks, 57, and the above charges.

On May 30, Hooks was arrested on a warrant issued by an APSO officer and booked into APSO Detention Facility DC-1 in Marksville.

Bail was set at $50,000.
