Police initially set up a barricade on the street below, but as the protest grew and spread to the campus square, more officers in riot gear were deployed.

An hour after the protest began, police entered the administrative building where the protesters had barricaded themselves. They closed the windows and removed the protesters’ material.

The organization Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR) McGill published a lengthy statement on Telegram criticizing the university for rejecting its demand to divest from companies with ties to Israel.

Reuters was able to confirm the location of the video based on the building footprints, trees, lamppost position and garden, which matched the files and satellite imagery of the McGill University campus. Reuters was able to confirm the date of the videos based on the metadata of the original file.
