1 dead and 1 injured after shooting following fight, Goldsboro police say

GOLDSBORO, NC (WNCN) — One man is dead and another is in critical condition following a shooting Wednesday night, according to Goldsboro police.

At around 5:47 p.m., officers said they were called to the 1600 block of South John Street because of a shots fired.

When officers arrived, they said they found an 18-year-old man who had been shot.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and then transferred to another facility. According to police, his condition is currently acceptable.

While on scene, officers said they were also called to the 300 block of Hollowell Avenue because a person was unresponsive.

Police said they found a man in a vehicle who appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified him as 21-year-old Vorteryahj Sanders of Dudley.

After an initial investigation, police said Sanders was involved in the incident on S. John Street. They said the two victims knew each other and there was an argument before the shooting.

Officials said the shooting remains under investigation and no further details are available at this time.
