Spencer and Kallie Wright take life support measures for son Levi

UTAH, USA — Rodeo star Spencer Wright and his wife Kallie are mourning the loss of their three-year-old son Levi, who died two weeks ago in a near-drowning accident and suffered severe brain damage.

Kallie announced on Facebook on Sunday that after numerous discussions with their doctors, she and Spencer had made the decision to stop Levi’s life support.

“Levi showed us just enough to give us time to do all of this,” Kallie wrote in her post. “We prayed that this would be him defying the odds and proving to us that he wanted to stay, but now we see that he wanted to give us time to come to terms with letting him go.”

On May 21, Levi fell into a river in Utah while playing on a toy tractor and had to be flown to the hospital by helicopter. In social media updates following the accident, Kallie shared that Levi briefly opened his eyes in the hospital, but further tests showed significant brain damage. Kallie now believes this was Levi’s way of being “considerate and thoughtful” and helping his family grieve. “I really believe he did this for us.”

“Soon I will climb into bed with my baby and hold him as he falls asleep for the last time on this earth,” Wright continued. “It gives me comfort to know that he will go back to being the perfect little boy he was and have the ability to do all the things he loves!”

Wright pointed to the family’s faith, adding: “There are angels up there waiting to hold him in their arms until I can again.”

Family friend and spokeswoman Mindy Clark said Levi passed away on June 2. She thanked the thousands of people who prayed for Levi.

“We have never seen or experienced anything like this,” she wrote. “I don’t know if we will ever be able to fully process this.”

Kallie and Spencer Wright have two other children: Steeley, 5, and Brae, 9 months.
