16-year-old suffers gunshot wound in suspected drive-by shooting in Willmar, investigation ongoing – West Central Tribune

WILLMAR – A 16-year-old boy suffered a leg injury in a shooting Sunday evening in Willmar.

According to a press release from Willmar Police Chief Jim Felt, officers were called to the 700 block of Fourth Street Southeast around 10:40 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, for a report of shots fired.

When police arrived on scene, they learned that a young man from Willmar had been taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. The man reportedly suffered an injury from a drive-by shooting.

Officers secured the scene and called additional personnel to follow the incident at the hospital. It was later determined that the young man had sustained an injury to his leg as a result of the shooting. The man was treated and released from the hospital later that evening.

At the scene, officers found a house and a vehicle parked in front of it that had been damaged by numerous gunshots. Felt said it was also the house where the 16-year-old was at the time of the shooting.

Evidence was secured at the crime scene. However, according to Felt, several witnesses at the scene were uncooperative.

The investigations are still ongoing.

Willmar Police were assisted by numerous officers from the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office.
