Warm, unsettled weather next week

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WBRC) – First Alert AccuTrack shows that some widely scattered showers will develop again west of I-65 towards the end of the night. We do not expect any additional threat of severe storms overnight, as the rain-cooled air will even prevent much thunder and lightning. The heaviest rain for the weekend is already behind us.

A few scattered showers may linger from the night’s activities into tomorrow morning, but the overall chance of rain is lower for Sunday. The morning hours will be mild and muggy, with scattered fog. Temperatures will recover and climb back up to 27 to 30 degrees tomorrow, with partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies. Light southerly winds will blow, making the muggy air hard to let up as the work week begins. A few more showers and thunderstorms could develop later in the afternoon and evening, so as always, remember: if there’s thunder, get indoors!

Rain chances for the start of the work week are looking lower as high pressure briefly takes control again. There’s a 20% chance of rain on Monday and a 30% chance on Tuesday. If you need to cross yard work off your to-do list, just check the First Alert Weather app for afternoon and evening thunderstorms. The forecast will become more unsettled again mid-week as a northwesterly flow pattern takes over, bringing intermittent rain and thunderstorms for Wednesday and Thursday. A cold front will also try to push into central Alabama late in the week, putting rain chances at 50-60% before its arrival on Wednesday and Thursday. Some models show the northwesterly flow pattern could continue into next weekend, bringing more active weather Friday through Sunday, so the cold front could struggle to cool us off and dry us out immediately. We’ll be watching for strong to severe thunderstorm threats in this configuration as well, but nothing is organized and set in stone at this point. Meanwhile, humidity will remain high through at least mid-week, and southerly winds will be present. Afternoon highs will be in the 30s to 35s Celsius early in the week, “falling” to 28s to 35s Celsius later in the week. Morning lows will remain mild and humid in the 18s to 21s Celsius range throughout the workweek, and will be in the 18s to 20s Celsius range over the weekend.
