The Marshall County Prosecutor says the Guntersville daycare will be closed following an investigation

GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The Marshall County District Attorney’s Office says a Guntersville day care center is closing its doors after an investigation found several issues, including inappropriate handling of children and violations of Alabama’s mandatory reporting law.

District Attorney Jennifer Bray said on social media Tuesday that an investigation by her office found several problems with Kids Korner in Guntersville after allegations were made by a former employee.

The district attorney said investigators found evidence that two current daycare employees violated Alabama law when dealing with children. Bray said her office notified the parents of the children directly affected and explained to them how they could obtain arrest warrants for the employees if they wanted. She said a warrant was issued for harassment of one of the employees on Tuesday.

Bray said the investigation also uncovered evidence of prior violations of Alabama’s mandatory reporting law. She said the statute of limitations for these incidents had expired, but the parents of the children involved had been notified.

The district attorney said her investigation also found problems with the teacher-to-child ratio and the suitability of some employees.

Bray said her office has already contacted the parents of children where there is evidence of abuse.

She said her office completed the investigation this week and reported the results to the board of First Methodist Church of Guntersville, which oversees Kids Korner.

“We pray for all of the parents and good employees affected by Kids Korner’s decision to close its doors,” Bray said. “We know this will undoubtedly have a serious impact on many families in our community, including our own employees whose children attend Kids Korner. However, we will always take allegations against a childcare center seriously and even with the disheartening outcome of closing Kids Kordner, we would not do it any other way.”

The district attorney said any parents with questions or concerns can call her office at 256-582-8113
