Protesters call for boycott of Brooklyn Museum after police make 34 arrests

A person arrested during a loud protest outside the Brooklyn Museum on Friday faces charges of assaulting a police officer. Protest organizers from the pro-Palestinian group Within Our Lifetime called for a boycott of the museum on Saturday.

Trevor Bishai, 24, of Brooklyn was among 34 people arrested at Friday night’s protest. One protester rappelled from the museum’s roof after hanging a banner calling for a free Palestine.

Bishai was charged with seven counts, including riding his bicycle on the sidewalk.

Earl James, 54, saw the banner being unfurled as the man daringly fled from police who had pursued him to the roof.

“He surprised the police. He climbed down from the roof of the museum and locked them (the police) out,” James said.

“The police couldn’t get to them and he unfurled the banner and then climbed down the front (of the museum). He used a rope. It was impressive.”

James said the man was arrested when he reached the ground.

The organizers of the protests called for a boycott of the Brooklyn Museum on their Telegram channel on Saturday. They accused the museum of calling the police to arrest protesters who had occupied the lobby.
