Man killed by police SWAT team after standoff in Silver Spring

SILVER SPRING, Maryland – A man is dead after being shot by police in Silver Spring Wednesday night.

It all started around 11:40 p.m. when police were called to a person in distress at an apartment on Hampton Point Drive.

According to police, a mother was in the house with her son, who was allegedly armed with a gun.

Gunshots were reportedly heard from the unit, prompting the Montgomery County Police SWAT team to be called.

After some negotiations, the SWAT team decided to enter the apartment, which led to a fatal encounter with the suspect.

It is unclear if a weapon was found. The names of the suspect and officers involved have not been released.

The investigation is being conducted by the Maryland Attorney General’s Office.
