A six-year-old girl was killed while crossing the street on Monday evening.

TOWN OF TONAWANDA, NY – A 6-year-old girl is dead after she was struck by a pickup truck while crossing the street in the Town of Tonawanda Monday night.

The Tonawanda City Police Department has so far described the incident as a tragic accident and does not believe that the man who allegedly hit the girl while crossing the street was at fault.

“It’s very tragic. It’s very emotional,” said Captain Joseph Milosich of the Tonawanda City Police Department.

Just before 8 p.m. Monday night, Tonawanda City Police and paramedics were called to Canterbury Lane after a six-year-old girl was struck by a delivery truck. Captain Joseph Milosich of the Tonawanda City Police Department says the investigation is still in its early stages.

“Right now, everything is being processed by our accident investigation unit. It’s a very thorough unit. They’re looking at everything as we speak,” said Captain Joseph Milosich.

The girl died at Kenmore Mercy Hospital. Police have not released her name.

The 84-year-old driver of the van is cooperating with the police in the investigation.

“The case is still open. It’s still very new. We want to get as much information and facts as possible, we want to get it to you as quickly and as accurately as possible. To make sure everything is correct, we want to do a very thorough investigation and we also want to be respectful to our family and our little daughter who died,” said Captain Joseph Milosich.

Tonawanda Township Police say it would be helpful if you have surveillance video of the accident or if you saw what happened to call them at (716) 879-6614 while their investigation continues. You can also call (716) 879-6606 if you do not wish to give your name.
