After Porsche incident, Pune’s party scene suffers; entrepreneur shares clips of abandoned pubs

The Porsche incident has shaken Pune to its core, so much so that it has had a profound impact on the city known for its wild parties and fancy brunches. Pune’s pubs and clubs have been deserted since a drunken 17-year-old crashed his car into a two-wheeler, killing two technicians.

A huge uproar online led many to question how the minor had obtained alcohol, especially considering that the legal drinking age is 25. As a result, this incident caused clubs and bars to experience a drop in sales even on weekends.

Entrepreneur shares clips of deserted pubs and clubs and says even 40- to 50-year-olds now have to show their ID

Pune-based entrepreneur and fitness influencer Chirag Barjatya posted a video showing several pubs in the city looking deserted after the Porsche incident. Barjatya noted that the usual crowd of these establishments, consisting of school and college students, are now being barred from entering.

“Clubs in Pune are empty. The people who used to party the most (high school and college students) are not even allowed in. Clubs no longer serve alcohol except near the bar. Even people aged 40-50 have to show their ID to enter,” Barjatya, founder of PFC Club, wrote on X.

Barjatya shared two videos showing abandoned pubs and stressed that it used to be a challenge to get into these establishments.

Numerous people in the comments section confirmed that pubs in Pune have tightened their controls on entry. Several comments mentioned that a renowned club in the city now denies entry to people under the age of 25. While many expressed their happiness with this change, some remained cynical and opined that the situation would likely go back to the previous state after a few weeks.

“Once the Porsche case is in the public spotlight and the memory of it fades, everything will go back to business as usual,” wrote one user.

“I thought the same thing yesterday. Pune’s vibrant nightlife will be ruined for a long time. This will lead to more and more illegal party venues springing up like mushrooms in the outskirts,” wrote another user.
