1 dead in fire at commercial building in South El Monte – NBC Los Angeles

A person was found dead in a commercial building in South El Monte that caught fire late Sunday.

According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the fire was reported at 11:25 p.m. in the 10100 block of Rush Street.

When firefighters arrived, the building was already fully ablaze. They then conducted a defensive battle, positioning hoses outside the building to extinguish the flames and protect the surrounding buildings, the LACOFD said.

The body was discovered shortly before 2 a.m. when firefighters had the fire under control and entered the building.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
