Missionary man sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexual assault of child

MISSION – A man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Nelson Zamora, 54, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, Hidalgo County District Attorney Toribio “Terry” Palacios announced.

On March 25, 2022, Mission Police were informed of an underage female who cried out about sexual abuse against Zamora when she was seven years old. The child was interviewed by a forensic interviewer and underwent a sexual assault examination. During each examination and as part of the investigation, it was discovered that Zamora had sexually abused the minor child for three years.

The sexual abuse occurred while Mr. Zamora was alone with the victim at a residence in Mission, Texas.

The charges are the result of an investigation by Mission Police.
