Stoney Trail crash that resulted in 1 fatality under investigation

Calgary police are investigating a collision on Stoney Trail late Saturday afternoon that left a teenager dead.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., a Silver Infiniti G37 traveling south on Stoney Trail approaching McKnight Boulevard NE lost control. The vehicle crossed the median and struck a light pole before coming to rest in the northbound lanes of Stoney Trail.

A 15-year-old boy was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was taken to hospital in serious condition.

Three passengers were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police are investigating the possibility that excessive speed played a role in the accident.
