Man arrested after being found in Alabama with missing North Carolina teenager

CABARRUS COUNTY, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A man was arrested after he was found with a missing 16-year-old Cabarrus County girl, authorities confirmed to QCN.

According to the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office, when the teen was reported missing, it was believed she had voluntarily left in a white BMW with Richard Michael Maybach, 33, possibly heading out of state.

Investigators, along with assistance from the FBI Charlotte Field Office, determined that the vehicle was located in Oxford, Alabama on Friday, May 3rd.

Authorities in Oxford located Maybach with the missing teenager and he was taken into custody.

He has been charged with kidnapping a child in North Carolina and is awaiting extradition. Authorities said additional charges could be filed in both North Carolina and Alabama.

This investigation remains open and ongoing.
