1 dead after accident near DeWitt

One person was killed in a car accident east of DeWitt on Sunday evening.

The Clinton County Communications Center received a 911 call at approximately 8:52 p.m. on May 5 about a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 330th Avenue and Hwy 30 east of DeWitt. When first responders arrived, they found a 2013 Toyota Prius and a 2008 Toyota Prius Pontiac Vibe in the median, west of the intersection.


A preliminary investigation revealed that the Vibe was traveling westbound on Highway 30 and the Prius was turning eastbound onto Highway 30 at the time of the incident. The driver and passenger of the Prius and the driver of the Vibe were taken to Mercy North Hospital in Clinton. The Prius’s occupants were taken to the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, where the driver later died.

The driver’s identity is being withheld until family is notified. The accident remains under investigation by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
