SBU Faculty Senate votes to drop all charges against 29 people arrested during protest

Stony Brook University’s Senate faculty voted to call on the school to drop all charges against the 29 students, faculty and community members arrested during pro-Palestinian protests last week.

The resolution also calls for the deletion of all records of those arrested.

The university, Suffolk and state police all responded to the university’s message.

At the meeting, faculty also voted to investigate a new campus police operation launched by university President Maurie Mcinnis.

Speakers mentioned that campus police took cell phones from some protesters and refused to give them back.

The Senate introduced a third resolution saying it had no confidence in Mcinnis moving forward.

The president defended her handling of the protest.
