Conor Benn has been provisionally suspended from competition again after appeals from UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) and the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) were successful.

Benn was originally suspended from the sport in March 2023 after testing positive for a banned substance ahead of a scheduled fight with Chris Eubank Jr. in October 2022.

Last July, the independent National Anti-Doping Panel issued a decision overturning his ban from boxing. BBBoC and UKAD appealed this decision, with Benn choosing to continue his career in America while the appeals were ongoing.

On Friday, BBBoC and UKAD were successful in their appeals to overturn the National Anti-Doping Panel’s decision.

Robert W. Smith, general secretary of the BBBoC, said: “As UKAD has stated, the BBBoC can confirm that Conor Benn is subject to an interim ban banning him from taking part in competition (or supporting another athlete in any capacity). “An event or activity organized, convened, approved or recognized by the BBBoC or another World Anti-Doping Code compliant sport.

“UKAD and BBBoC were successful in their respective appeals against a decision by an arbitrator of the independent National Anti-Doping Panel in July 2023 and Mr Benn’s interim suspension was reinstated by the Court of Appeal following these successful appeals.”

“As Mr Benn’s case is still before the independent National Anti-Doping Panel and the case is now being pursued in accordance with the UK anti-doping rules, the BBBoC is not in a position to make further public comment at this time to hand in.”

Sky sports news has reached out to Benn’s representatives for comment.

Benn has always maintained his innocence regarding the two failed drug tests.

When UKAD and BBBoC lodged their appeals, Benn said: “I am disappointed at the news that an appeal has been lodged as both the WBC and the National Anti-Doping Board have already given me permission to continue my career without restrictions. “

“As I said before, I am innocent. Nothing has changed and I remain confident in my position.”

“I will have no further comment while I allow the legal process to play out.”
